Businesses don't make decisions. People do.

"You may work with people who are kind and empathic but don't be loyal to a business because a business will lay you off if profits drop, a business will create a toxic culture to work in."

No. Businesses don't do any of those things. Businesses don't make decisions. People do.

And when we abstract the person from the decisions, a.k.a. "it's not personal, it's just business," then we give people a free pass to make uncaring, unempathetic decisions. To create toxic environments!

Why?

Because we've allowed people in companies to play a role, to act out a part as if a character in some Hollywood produced business screenplay.

"It's not me making this decision, it's the business, i'm just acting out the role i was hired to play. It's right in the script the business gave me."

The health of a business's culture and the well-being of its employees depend on the values and actions of its leaders and team members.

A company that creates a toxic culture or makes decisions that harm its employees, is doing so because the individuals in power allow it to happen.

Businesses don't make decisions. People do.
