Hippie CEO Life #25 - You’ve Already Won
September 30, 2022
“If most days you get to work on something you love to do, you’ve already won.” — jason thompson
If you are anything like me, then there is always some future finish line that you just have to cross before you will feel good about what you have accomplished, with where you are in your career, in life.
However, the reality is that most of us have already won. We have made it to a place where we are able to, on most days, work on things that we really love to do.
This isn’t to say that we should sit idly by, rest on our laurels as they say, but it is to say that we should stop putting off enjoyment of life for some arbitrary future finish line — “When I get a C-level title, then i’ll be happy.” or “When I can finally afford that beach house, then life will be great.” or “Once my new business generates a million dollars, then I will allow myself to enjoy it.”
These arbitrary finish lines rarely, if ever, bring happiness as you pass them by and subconsciously set yet another finish line that has to be conquered before you can feel good about where you are. In fact, what i have discovered is that the process of reaching some future state is far more enjoyable than attaining the goal.
To live only for some future goal is shallow. It's the sides of the mountain which sustain life, not the top. Here's where things grow.” Robert M. Pirsig - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
